A 52-year-old Toowoomba man facing almost 100 child sex related matters has taken his case straight up to the higher court to be dealt with.

Scott William James Boyd is charged with a total 96 matters including multiple counts of grooming children, child exploitation material and indecent treatment of a child.

Police investigators claim some of the charges arise from Mr Boyd allegedly reaching out online to mothers in an attempt to obtain access to their children for sex.

The 96 counts include: 40 counts of grooming a child under 16 years or parent – expose to indecent matter child or fictitious person believed to be under 12; 39 counts of grooming child under 16 years or parent – expose to indecent matter; eight of using carriage service to prepare to cause harm or engage in sexual activity with or procure for sexual activity person under 16; two counts each of making child exploitation material, indecent treatment of child under 16; and one count each of involving a child in making child exploitation material, possessing child exploitation material, procuring young person for penile intercourse and breaching bail.

Mr Boyd has not as yet been required to enter any pleas to those charges.

The man’s case was mentioned before Toowoomba Magistrates Court on February 9, 2024.

His solicitor Phil Stainton, of Legal Aid Queensland’s Toowoomba office, told the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Friday, February 9, that all of his client’s charges had gone by way of registry committal to the District Court.

Police prosecutor Rowan Brewster-Webb confirmed the matters had been filed with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Magistrate Mark Howden therefore remanded Mr Boyd in custody and adjourned the matters for mention back in the Magistrates Court on March 8 by which time it was expected the charges would be before the higher court.
