Police are calling for witnesses to come forward to help with the investigation into a terrifying home invasion in Meringandan West.

Toowoomba Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker said two men forced their way through the rear laundry door of a Clifford St home while armed with a sawn-off rifle about 2.30am on Monday.

The occupant, a 28-year-old man, confronted the intruders, who armed themselves with a piece of furniture.

“As a result the occupant received a blow to the back of the neck from a dining room chair,” Sergeant McCusker said.

“During the incident one of the offenders dropped a sawn-off .22 rifle that was not used during the assault.”

The intruders fled empty-handed in the 4WD.

Paramedics were called to the scene and treated the occupant for lacerations before transporting him to the Toowoomba Hospital.

“It is very concerning that offenders are running around with firearms,” Sergeant McCusker said.

Police are investigating the matter and have called for anyone who observed a suspicious 4WD in the Meringandan West area in the early hours of Monday morning to come forward.

This includes anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage.

Phone Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
