Police allege a married Darling Downs man reached out to mothers online and asked them if he could have sexual intercourse with their young children.
Following Scott William James Boyd’s arrest, he applied for bail at the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Thursday, October 12, however his application was denied.
The court heard police charged the long serving Riverina Stockfeeds yardman with a number of serious child sexual offences
The court heard police took Mr Boyd into custody at his workplace, and after examining his two phones, the following charges were laid; 60 counts of grooming a child or their parent, two charges of indecent treatment of a child under 16, procuring a child for penile penetration, using the internet to prepare to engage in sexual activity with a child, and breaching bail conditions.
The court heard the 52-year-old has been in a long-term relationship for six years.
Magistrate Louise Shephard noted Boyd’s solicitor, Phil Stainton, conceded the police had a strong case.
“You have not shown cause as to why your detention in custody is unjustified,” she told Boyd.
“I take the view that you are an unacceptable risk if released on bail, that you will commit offences, and you will endanger the safety or welfare of children.”
“There are no conditions that I can attach to bail that would mitigate that risk to an acceptable level.”
A brief of evidence was ordered and the matter was set down to be mentioned on October 25.
