Murder charge expected after Withcott run over victim dies in hospital

The 46-year-old accused man could be facing a murder charge upon the death of a 33-year-old man runover by a vehicle at Withcott.

A 33-year-old Boronia Heights man has died from injuries sustained in an allegedly deliberate hit and run at Withcott last month.

Police claim that Paul Sia was deliberately struck along Toowoomba Connection Road shortly after 3pm on Sunday, November 20.

Mr Sia was airlifted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where he died on Saturday.

On November 21, 46-year-old Rockville man Jonathan Wright was charged with one count of attempt to murder, two counts of endangering the safety of a person in a vehicle with intent, and one count of dangerous operation of motor vehicle.

Jonathan Wright, 44, has been charged with attempted murder.

Wright’s barrister David Jones KC during what was to be a bail application before Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Friday told the court should Mr Sia die then the bail application would have to be heard by the Supreme Court.

“Advice has been given about whether the life support should be removed and if that is the case, obviously, the applicant (Wright) expects the Queensland Police Service to change the charge from attempted murder to murder.”

A police press release on Sunday claimed: “Detectives from Toowoomba CIB are now considering the most appropriate course of action in relation to the victim’s death.”

Wright remains in custody and is expected to speak with his lawyers in the coming days.

Police continued to appeal for witnesses and dashcam vision and a missing Holden Rodeo utility.
