A court has been told a woman who crashed her Suzuki Swift at a Toowoomba service station had a blood alcohol level more than four times over the legal limit.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Kinsley Weir said the driver, Linda Jane Black, first came to the attention of police when they noticed her car moving slowly along Main St at Westbrook, before turning into the entrance of a 7-Eleven and McDonald’s.

Senior Constable Weir said Black suddenly accelerated and smashed into a metal barrier that protected the fuel pump.

The court was told Black was trapped in the car before she was transported to hospital with minor bruising, where she was monitored overnight due to her level of intoxication.

Senior Constable Weir said Black’s blood was analyzed at the hospital and showed she had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.236.

Solicitor Joe McConnell said Black recently moved from Toowoomba to Victoria and had flown in for her court appearance on Tuesday, May 2.

Mr McConnell said the former hospitality worker was studying web design at TAFE and if a conviction was recorded it may affect her future job prospects within the IT industry.

The court also was told Black had taken significant steps to address her mental health and addiction issues which contributed to the incident, and that Black was committed to continuing to access support in Melbourne.

In Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Tuesday Black pleaded guilty to driving under the influence on October 19, 2022, and was fined $800 and disqualified from driving for six months.

No conviction was recorded.
