The Toowoomba Criminal Investigation Branch has charged a woman with arson after an investigation was launched into a house fire at South Toowoomba.

Police allege Karyn Crothers, 58, deliberately set unit 1/327, Hume St, alight on July 14, 2022.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said when firefighters arrived at the scene, the unit was “well involved” by flames.

The spokeswoman said it was unclear how extensive the damage was.

The Newtown woman’s case was mentioned in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Monday, April 24, however her appearance was excused.

The court was told police prosecutions had finished compiling the brief of evidence and would share it with Ms Crothers’ legal team.

The woman’s bail was enlarged, and her case was scheduled for a committal mention on June 5.
