One of two people charged in relation to an incident in which a police officer was struck and injured by a stolen Nissan X-trail in Toowoomba has had his matters mentioned before the city’s Magistrates Court.

Jamaine John Fing, 37, is accused by police of being in the stolen vehicle that allegedly struck a police officer as it sped away from a 7-Eleven service station on Perth St, Rangeville, about 11.30pm, November 17.

Police claim the fuel pump handle, through which the car was being refuelled at the time, was torn from its hose as the car sped away.

The police officer was not seriously injured in the incident.

Mr Fing has been held in custody since his arrest two days after the incident and appeared briefly by video link from Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre on Friday when his case was mentioned.

His solicitor Joe Millican told the court there was ongoing case conferencing between the defence and prosecution in relation to Mr Fing’s charges.

Mr Fing has not as yet been required to enter any pleas to those charges which include two counts of entering a dwelling and committing an indictable offence, three counts of receiving tainted property and one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing and wilful damage.

There being no application for bail, and magistrate Clare Kelly remanded Mr Fing in custody, adjourning all charges for mention back in the same court on January 24.

A 36-year-old woman similarly charged with Mr Fing has also been remanded in custody and was expected to return to court next month.
