A 59-year-old Toowoomba man accused of holding police at bay during a tense, five-hour siege has been reported to the city’s Magistrates Court.

Geoffrey Kunne has been held in custody since his arrest and was not required to be in court when his matters were mentioned on Monday, July 24, when his solicitor Brad Skuse, of Skuse Graham Lawyers, provided an update on his client’s case.

Mr Kunne has not as yet been required to enter any pleas to 10 charges arising from the incident including five counts of acts intended to resist or avoid arrest, and one each of arson, serious assault of a police officer and obstructing police.

All charges arise from alleged incidents at Mr Kunne’s Ruthven St residence in South Toowoomba on November 24, 2021, when it is alleged he was holed up in his home sparking a five-hour siege during which he is accused of spraying an officer in the face with bleach.

The siege ended when officers from the Public Safety Response Team stormed the premises.

Mr Skuse asked for an adjournment of about four weeks and that potentially a bail application could be made on the next mention of the matters in court.

Magistrate Clare Kelly therefore remanded Mr Kunne in custody and adjourned the case for mention back in the same court on August 22.
