A 49-year-old Gatton woman caught supplying methylamphetamine to another person has been handed a jail sentence.

In Toowoomba District Court on Friday, Judge Nathan Jarro told Robyn Josephine Drennert that to take drugs was one thing but to supply or offer to supply drugs put the offending into another category.

“Drugs wreak havoc, people become easily addicted to, families break down and communities break down as a consequence,” Judge Jarro told her.

“I have to impose a sentence that stops you and others from committing these offences.”

Drennert pleaded guilty to six counts of supplying a dangerous drug to one customer between February 8 and March 5, 2019.

Department of Public Prosecutions legal officer Grace O’Donnell said Drennert’s offending came to light when police downloaded the phone of her customer in April 2019.

However, the police had not issued her with a notice until July 2021, she said.

Drennert had dealt in street level quantities of 0.05g to 0.5g, she said.

Drennert had not reoffended in the four years since, the court was told.

Her barrister Nathan Edridge told the court his client instructed she wanted to quit drugs and didn’t want to use substances anymore.

Judge Jarro noted some of the offences were offers to supply the drug to which she had been introduced by an uncle initially.

Judge Jarro sentenced Dennert to nine months in jail but ordered she be released on parole immediately.
