Douglas Nean, accused of DV stabbing who was shot by Toowoomba police, charged with multiple offences

A man who was shot by police while trying to execute an arrest warrant for allegedly stabbing his former partner has been charged. More here.

An alleged repeat domestic violence offender who was shot by Toowoomba police earlier has been charged with a raft of offences.

The 45-year-old man, Douglas Nean, was shot in the chest following a standoff with police on Monday night, August 5.

Queensland Police Union president Ian Leavers said police had been searching for Mr Nean when they went to an address on Ruthven St.

Police allege Mr Nean stabbed his former partner near the Royal Hotel on Sunday evening.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said officers attended a unit on Ruthven St around 4.40pm to locate Mr Nean, who was wanted for questioning.

“It is alleged that upon arrival a man armed with a knife came at police,” she said.

“As a result, he was shot in the chest and transported to Toowoomba Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

“Two officers received minor injuries and have been released from hospital.”

Three days later police charged the man with nine offences including the serious assault police officers whilst armed, contravention of a domestic violence, wounding (domestic violence offence), common assault and assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed (domestic violence offence).

The spokeswoman said the Ethical Standards Command is investigating and the investigation was subject to oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.

“(Mr Nean) is currently in a stable condition and is receiving treatment at Toowoomba Hospital,” she said.
