Former NRL player Brett Seymour has indicated he will contest multiple charges of assault which police allege were committed in a domestic violence setting.

More than a year ago police charged the former Brisbane Broncos, Cronulla Sharks and New Zealand Warriors rugby league player with domestic violence assault charges.

Solicitor Paige Hetherington appeared on behalf of Mr Seymour when his chargers were brought before the Toowoomba District Court on Wednesday, August 8.

The Skuse Graham Criminal Lawyer indicated Mr Seymour would contest the charges and the case would “likely” end up going to trial.

Ms Hetherington said barrister Nathan Edridge was across the case and would represent Mr Seymour, noting a meeting with Mr Seymour and lawyers was scheduled on August 29.

“I’d be seeking an adjournment to the call over on the 12th of September, so I can seek a listing on that day,” she said.

Judge Dennis Lynch said the availability of trial dates for 2025 may not be available in early September.

The 34-year-old man has yet been required to enter any formal pleas to the charges.

In late 2023, the Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard Mr Seymour was applying for legal aid to help fund his criminal case.

Details of the alleged assaults, some of which police alleged occasioned bodily harm, have not been disclosed in court.

Mr Seymour’s case is likely to be given a trial date sometime in 2025 when the matter is next mentioned on September 26.

Mr Seymour remains on bail.
