Brayden Lawrence Gillmeister has case mentioned in Toowoomba court, accused of property and vehicle offences

A 19-year-old who was allegedly behind the wheel of a stolen car that drove off from a service station without paying while the business owner clung to the bonnet has had his charges mentioned in court. Here’s what happened.

Attendant hit in service station fuel theft

A teenager charged with multiple vehicle and property offences, and is accused of being involved in a terrifying incident at a Toowoomba service station, has fronted court.

Brayden Lawrence Gillmeister, 19, did not appear from the watch-house as his charges were mentioned in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Friday, but was represented by solicitor Chelsea Saldumbide.

Toowoomba detectives charged Mr Gillmeister with eight offences including three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a police vehicle, attempted enter dwelling with intent and armed robbery.

The Newtown teenager was allegedly behind the wheel of a vehicle stolen from a Russell St address on April 8 when he and an alleged co-accused attended a service station on Old Homebush Rd, Gowrie Junction about 4.30pm on Monday April 10.

Police allege after Gillmeister’s co-accused filled the vehicle with fuel the pair tried to flee the service station, with the business co-owner Clint Weber attempting to intervene in the incident.

CCTV footage of the incident allegedly captured Mr Weber standing in front of the vehicle before it accelerated into him and drove off, leaving Mr Weber clinging to the front of the vehicle for a short distance.

In court on Friday Ms Saldumbide said her client was not making an application for bail, and requested a brief of evidence from police prosecutor Anita Page.

Magistrate Louise Shephard remanded Mr Gillmeister in custody and adjourned the matter to June 2.
