Attendant hit in service station fuel theft

A Toowoomba teenager accused of driving off in a stolen vehicle from a service station with the business owner clinging to the car’s bonnet has had his charges adjourned in the city’s Magistrates Court.

Brayden Lawrence Gillmeister has been remanded in custody since his arrest for the alleged incident at a Gowrie Junction service station on April 10 and was not required to be in court on Friday when his charges were mentioned.

His solicitor Nikola Prince, of Legal Aid Queensland’s Toowoomba office, told the court she had received all of the police material and would be sending a submission to police forthwith.

Ms Prince asked for an adjournment so police could consider that submission and respond.

Mr Gillmeister, 19, is charged with eight matters including three counts of unlawful use of motor vehicles, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, attempted enter dwelling with intent and armed robbery.

Police claim the Newtown teen was behind the wheel of a car stolen from a Russell St address on April 8 when he and an alleged co-accused arrived at the service station on Old Homebush Rd, Gowrie Junction, about 4.30pm, Monday, April 10.

It is alleged that after his co-accused filled the vehicle with fuel, Mr Gillmeister and his associate tried to drive away but business co-owner Clint Weber had attempted to intervene by standing in front of the car.

CCTV footage of the incident allegedly captured the car taking off and striking Mr Weber who was thrown up onto the vehicle and carried a short distance before jumping free.

Magistrate Mark Howden remanded Gillmeister in custody and adjourned his matters for mention back in the same court on July 14.
