High-profile man faces Toowoomba court on rape charges

The lawyer for a high-profile man accused of rape has requested for phone downloads to be provided as well as a report from a forensic medical officer.

A media scrum gathered outside Toowoomba Magistrates Court when the alleged rape case involving a high-profile man was briefly mentioned.

The man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, had his matter mentioned in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning, June 28 after being charged with two counts of rape.

Crown prosecutor Nicole Friedewald said the high-profile man’s defence, RK Lawyers principal Rowan King, asked for phone downloads to be provided to his office as he had only received partial downloads.

Mr King dialled into the court via phone and told the court he was also waiting for a report from the forensic medical officer.

The Crown said it had organised a meeting with the relevant doctor later in the day to discuss the report and obtain an estimated time for its completion.

Magistrate Louise Shepard adjourned the case for four weeks to allow time for the brief of evidence to be completed and provided to lawyers.

The case will next be before the court for a committal mention on July 26.

Queensland law prevents the identification of those charged with sexual assault until they are committed to stand trial – a process that can take several years.

The man remains on bail.
