A Toowoomba man who was set on fire during an alleged drug deal gone wrong has been remanded in custody after he was arrested on fresh drug charges.
Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard Jordan Ryan Moore was on bail for alleged drug dealing charges when he committed the further offences in April.
The 27-year-old father appeared via video link from the watch house when he applied for bail before the court on Thursday, April 17.
Police opposed the bail application on the basis he posed a risk to the community, having allegedly been found with a large amount of methamphetamine while on bail for allegedly dealing the dangerous drug.
The court heard Mr Moore had a number of drug-dealing charges before the Supreme Court from 2023, which were yet to be dealt with.
During the bail application, the court heard Mr Moore suffered from a number of mental health issues following an incident in September 2023, where he was doused in petrol and set alight outside pub in Harristown.
Solicitor Ryan McCullough conceded Mr Moore had put himself in a “very unenviable” position being accused of supplying meth and then allegedly being found with a schedule quantity of it.
Mr McCullough said he received instructions from Mr Moore that he would comply the any and all bail conditions, and if he was released, he planned to live with family members at Southbrook.
He noted the analysis certificate for the drug would take some time to be produced, and until that time, the weight and purity of the substance would remain unknown.
Magistrate Kyna Morice refused the bail application, noting the police had a strong case and he was on bail and a probation order at the time, and had a relevant criminal history.
Mrs Morice said she was of the view that there were no bail conditions that would ameliorate the risk that Moore may commit further alleged offences.
A brief of evidence was ordered, and the matter was adjourned to June 20, to join up with other drug charges Mr More had before the magistrate’s court.
The charges before the court on April 17 were as follows; possessing a schedule one drug with a quantity exceeding schedule three, possession of a dangerous drug, possessing a drug utensil, and failing to dispose of a needle or syringe.
