Man accused of lighting Toowoomba father on fire committed to stand trial

A man in custody who allegedly played a role in lighting a Toowoomba father on fire is headed for trial.

A young man accused of playing a role in the a fire attack on a father outside a popular Toowoomba pub has been committed to stand trial.

Yves William David Greenhill, 27, appeared in custody before Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning where he was committed to stand trial for an alleged act intended to cause grievous bodily harm on Jordan Moore in September last year.

Mr Greenhill is accused of taking part in an alleged attack outside the Stock Hotel in Harristown that saw Mr Moore doused in petrol and set alight.

Head police prosecutor Sergeant Tim Hutton tendered 36 written statements alongside photos, CCTV footage, interview recordings and relevant documents to support the prosecution’s case on the committal hearing.

The evidence on the application was uncontested by Mr Greenhill’s barrister Scott Lynch and no cross examination occurred.

Magistrate Mark Howden committed Mr Greenhill to the Toowoomba District Court for trial at a date to be set by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

At the conclusion of the committal hearing, Mr Howden asked the defendant if he wished to respond to the charges.

Mr Greenhill opened his mouth to speak but was quickly cut off by his barrister who asserted his client would withhold comment; Mr Greenhill smiled but remained silent.

Mr Lynch also asked the court to delay the mention of Mr Greenhill’s additional charges of obstructing a police officer, possession of a knife in a public place and two counts of willful damage.

No plea was entered.

The mention was adjourned until October 15 of this year, to be held at Toowoomba Magistrates Court.

Mr Greenhill was remanded in custody pending trial.
