A Toowoomba man accused of robbing a service station at gunpoint looks set to take his matters to trial after his charges were briefly mentioned in court.
Police allege 32-year-old Aaron James Cant walked into the Metro Petroleum service station on James Street in Harristown about 4.23am on April 12 and asked the cashier for cigarettes.
While the attendant was getting the cigarettes Mr Cant is alleged to have pulled out what looked like a shotgun and demanded money and more cigarettes.
The cashier complied and Mr Cant is alleged to have fled on foot with what police believe was a large sum of money.
Mr Cant has been charged with a number of offences, including armed robbery, enter dwelling and commit indictable offence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing and five counts of fraud, with no pleas entered as of yet.
During a brief mention of the matter in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Monday, Cant’s solicitor Ryan McCullough said the armed robbery offence had been committed to the District Court, and indicated to the court it was due to proceed by way of trial, with the related offences to proceed as summary offences under section 651 of the Criminal Code.
After Mr McCullough obtained further police material from the prosecution for further unrelated matters, magistrate Louise Shephard adjourned the case for two weeks so that Mr Cant could provide his legal team with further instructions.
The matter was adjourned to September 5.
