TWO men charged with murder relating to the death of a 53-year-old man at a Ruthven St residence on Christmas Eve have had their respective cases mentioned before Toowoomba Magistrates Court.

Neither Aaron John Leslie Bunt, 29, of North Toowoomba, nor Oakey man William John Currey, 32, were required to be in court for the mention of their matters on Thursday.

Bunt’s solicitor Jag MacDonald told the court he had received the police brief of evidence from the prosecution in court that morning and asked for an adjournment so he could go through that brief.

Similarly, Currey’s solicitor Michael Corbin said he had received the police brief but it appeared at first glance that some forensic reports and witness statements remained outstanding and asked for an adjournment.

Police claim both men assaulted deceased Len Andrew Hegarty at the Ruthven St, Toowoomba North, residence some time before December 24, 2021.

Neither of the accused has been required to enter any pleas to the charges which include murder and two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm.

Both men were remanded in custody with Bunt’s matters adjourned for mention back in the same court on March 24 and Currie’s for mention on April 7.

A third person, believed to be an associate of Mr Bunt, Debbie Jane Richards, 33, has been charged with being an accessory after the fact of murder arising from the same incident.

She has been remanded in custody with her case due back in Toowoomba Magistrates Court for mention on March 3.
