A 32-year-old man has pleaded guilty to the armed robbery of a Toowoomba service station in which police claim a weapon was used.
Aaron James Cant appeared in custody before Toowoomba District Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to one count of armed robbery arising from an incident at Metro Petroleum on James St about 4.23am, Tuesday, April 12, 2022.
Police claim Cant had walked into the service station and asked for cigarettes awhen when Cant pulled out what appeared to be a shotgun and demanded money and smokes.
The cashier complied and police claim Cant then fled on foot with what at the time was described as a “significant” amount of money.
Solicitor Ryan McCullough, of MacDonald Law, representing Cant told the court on Tuesday it was planned to have a psychological report compiled relating to his client which would take some months to prepare.
Mr McCullough said counsel had been briefed in the matter and had availability during the October sittings of the District Court in Toowoomba when the sentence could be heard.
There was no issue with his client being remanded in custody in the meantime, he said.
Crown prosecutor Nicole Friedewald said the Crown had no objection to the matter being listed for sentence in the October sittings.
Judge Nathan Jarro therefore remanded Cant in custody and adjourned the matter for sentence in the District Court sittings in Toowoomba commencing October 30.
