Aaron James Cant charged over Metro Petroleum service station robbery

Police will allege the 32-year-old man walked into the service station and asked for a pack of smokes before pulling out what looked like a shotgun.

Aaron James Cant faced the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Saturday charged with robbing the Metro Petroleum service station at gunpoint.

Police allege the 32-year-old walked into the James Street service station at 4.23am on Tuesday and asked the cashier for a packet of smokes.

While the cashier was retrieving the smokes, Cant pulled out what looked like a shotgun and allegedly demanded money and cigarettes.

The cashier complied and Cant fled on foot with what was described as a ‘significant’ amount of money.

SHOTGUN ROBBERY: Police allege Aaron James Cant robbed the Metro Petroleum service station on Tuesday April 12.

Cant was arrested early Saturday morning and charged with armed robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, entering a premises with intent to commit an indictable offence, driving without a licence, using a false number plate and stealing.

He faced the Toowoomba Magistrates Court later that day but was not required to enter a plea.

The matter has been adjourned.

The store owner, Wahid Ali said the cashier was shaken up but otherwise uninjured.

“I have told my staff that if something like this ever happens you don’t have to argue.

“A human being’s life is more important than money.”
