Young Toowoomba cricketer Felicity Koch is riding the waves of success as she is set to take on some of the best country cricketers in Australia when she represents Queensland Country next month.

The teenage superstar was over the moon to be named in the team for the first time, off the back of her call-up to the Queensland U19 where she has been competing in the national championships over the last week.

“I was pretty excited (to be named in the Queensland Country team) and I am keen to get away in the new year,” Koch said.

After coming agonisingly close to making the team in previous years, she was delighted to finally be selected in the team after a strong season

“I trialled a few years ago but then when we did the North Queensland vs South Queensland game I got Covid a couple of days beforehand so I wasn’t able to go for the team,” she said.

Koch is over the moon to don the maroon colours alongside some of the state’s best grade cricketers and is eager to learn as much as possible.

“I will be able to see how the other girls work, playing against them is a bit different, so seeing how they work in the team with me will be pretty good,” she said.

“I just want to learn as much as possible from all the older girls who have more experience and just enjoy it.”

The young all-rounder has cherished the opportunity to compete under high-performance coaches and alongside Queensland’s most promising cricketers over the last week at the National U19 Championships.

“This is my first time in the team, I got called up because someone was unavailable so it was pretty lucky,” Koch said.

“I was pretty excited because it was only a couple of weeks before this carnival so I was a bit shocked.

“Getting to know all the girls a bit better and seeing how all different coaches work, I have learned a lot being away this week.”

Koch is in her second season of first grade with Ipswich and has hopes of one day breaking into the Queensland Fire squad.

“I’d hope to but if I don’t, I just want to continue enjoying the game for what it is,” she said.

“It is a goal and something I would hope for, but if it doesn’t happen I am just going to keep enjoying the game with all the girls.”
