FOOTBALL: Willowburn laid down a marker in the TFL premier men's division last Friday night.
Fighting back from a goal down, the Magpies handed competition leaders USQ FC their first regular season defeat.
Second half goals to Alex Edwards and Brayden Thrupp sealed the 2-1 win for Magpies after USQ scored early in the match.
It's a message that Willowburn captain Brodie Welch said his side were determined to send to USQ and the rest of the competition.
"We're really happy with the win," Welch said.
"We wanted to send USQ a message - telling them they won't have all their own way.
"Now we can take that momentum and confidence into our game against Gatton this weekend.
"It's a great boost for us heading into finals."
It what would prove to be an uneventful night, USQ captain Ashley Freier opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 17th minute before he was red-carded in the 91st.
Despite the early setback Welch thought his side's performance warranted a victory.
"We created plenty of chances in the first half - the only problem was we didn't finish them," Welch said.
"The second half was no different - we kept creating chances and once Alex (Edwards) scored it gave us an extra boost.
"It was a great header and we just went on with it from there."
