From the Walkers boys and Lowe brothers to the likes of Shane Webcke, Steve Price and Duncan Thompson – Toowoomba and South West Queensland has produced some of Australian rugby league’s greatest ever players.

Toowoomba Junior Rugby League has nurtured more than its fair share of young players – with great clubs and passionate volunteers playing a leading role.

With interest in the game and participation numbers on the rise – the 2024 TJRL seasons looks set to be one of the best in recent years.

Here’s our look at some of the under-11 stars with bright futures ahead of them.

Liam Williams (Newtown Lions)

Handed the captain’s armband due to his committment at training and his natural leadership skills, Liam expertly steers the team around the field and leads from the front.

Cooper Murdoch (Newtown Lions)

The young dummy half is a very smart young footballer and plays with all his heart every week.

Harry Salmi (Newtown Lions)

A versatile player who can line up anywhere on the field, score a try in the blink of an eye and is a very good defender

Ciara Hellyer (Newtown Lions)

Ciara is the most determined player the team, tops the tackle count nearly every week and can find her way to the try line in attack

Jesse Boshammer (Valleys Roosters)

An outstanding front row forward with a powerful running game and excellent agility that gives him the ability to offload to his teammates. Jesse is also a strong defender.

Azahlee Blades (Valleys Roosters)

With great footwork, speed and a strong passing game, Azahlee is capable of breaking open any game. She can play at fullback or centre and shows no fear in defence – often tackling far bigger players.

Rigby Collins (Valleys Roosters)

His quick decision making, sharp passing, clever running from dummy half and solid defence means Rigby is a real asset to the team.

James Jenkins (Valleys Roosters)

The gun halfback is a game changer with exceptional vision, leadership, passing accuracy, kicking skills and strategic decision making on the field. James’ ability to control the game and create scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates is invaluable.

Fletcher Usher (Highfields Eagles)

A hard working front rower and natural leader. Fletcher’s hard running style makes him a force up the middle and he has some of the best tackling skills in the competition. He passion and dedication to game was rewarded this year with a Darling Downs rep jeresey.

Isaac Luker (Highfields Eagles)

A rugby union convert with explosive speed and the ability to change direction late on his runs. Isaac has the physicality to play anywhere but he does his best work in the centres and backrow. His defence out wide is a huge asset. Isaac also was picked Darling Downs School boys this season.

Parker Bohm (Brothers Leprechauns)

The young halfback is a great organiser who leads his team around the park. Parker has a clever kicking game and is relentless in defence.

Zachariah Anderson (Brothers Leprechauns)

The exciting fullback has fast feet and a great feel for the game. Plays well above his weight and creates plenty of space with his cheeky dummies and footwork.

Tyler Heneghan (Brothers Leprechauns)

Tyler runs and tackles hard just like his idol Kurt Capewell and is reliable from start to finish.

Jaida Davies (Brothers Leprechauns)

The determined second rower isn’t afraid of anyone or anything. She loves the game, knows her role, runs hard and has the ability to break tackles.

Marley Timbrell (Brothers Leprechauns)

Marley is hard to tackle and has a great offload which makes her a handful in attack. Puts on some big hits in defence and leads from the front.

Hamish Plath (Pittsworth Danes)

Hamish is a versatile player who can line up anywhere in the backline but loves working in the halves or at centre. An exciting player who always produces whenever he gets his hands on the ball.

Winston Polzin (Pittsworth Danes)

Defends well above his size and loves to scoot out of dummy half when he catches the opposition snoozing.

Ryan Suell (Pittsworth Danes)

A tough competitor who doesn’t give up and makes great metres every time he has the ball.

Brodie Markey (Pittsworth Danes)

Brodie is renowned for his tryline scoots from dummy half, his solid defence and his cheeky smile.

Johnny Ward (Souths Tigers)

Incredibly fast and elusive, Johnny keeps his eyes up and finds space for some impressive breaks.

Archie Geran (South Tigers)

A quick and skilful dummy half, Archie sees the space and spreads the ball throughout the field of play. Small in stature but huge in heart, Archie’s defence is direct and well executed.

Bruce Sands (Souths Tigers)

A real utility player, mighty tough in a small package. Will pull up the biggest forward single-handedly and is quick and elusive in attack.

Bailey Duggan (South Tigers)

With a natural eye for the game, Bailey creates his own space on the field weaving his way through the defence.

Liam McHugh (Souths Tigers)

A true leader on and off the field, Liam arranges the field of play from his position as fullback. Strong in defence and ball handling.

Cormack Wade (Souths Tigers)

An incredibly versatile player, Cormack is a very strong attacking second rower who can also be utilised in any position. Strong and fierce.

Kobe Teni (Gatton Hawks)

A fast and skilful fullback who is dangerous every time he touches the football and is a strong and reliable defender.

Thomas Curtin (Gatton Hawks)

A utility player who can line up anywhere. Thomas runs hard and straight to bust open the line but also does a great job at first receiver directing the team forward.

Jaxen Pitura (Gatton Hawks)

A ‘go forward’ player who threatens to bust open the defence with every run. Also has the skill to play a variety of positions

Brock Pomerenke (Gatton Hawks)

Strong fast and skilful, Brock is a hard running attacking threat and quickly shuts down opposition players in defence.

Kobi Ramage (Gatton Hawks)

Not much gets past the winger who is strong in defence and attack and has the speed to cover ground quickly.

Jayden Waddell (Gatton Hawks)

A more than reliable utility player who can open up the game in attack and is also very reliable in defence for a player of his size.

Jackson Groves (Gatton Hawks)

A hard running forward who threatens to break the line with every touch of the football. Jackson is also one of the team’s best defenders.

Oliver Gray (Gatton Hawks)

Oliver is new to rugby league this year but you wouldn’t know it. He runs the ball straight and hard and plays a key part in the team down field.

Jett Stanton (Oakey Bears)

A standout at the recent Mankeltow Challenge, Jett picked up three player of the match awards. A dominate defender who chases down opposition players every game.

Hugh Gollan (Oakey Bears)

Scored and set up multiple tries at the Mankeltow Challenge in Pittsworth and will be a player to watch.

Kaidyn Crump and Nash Groves (Oakey Bears)

Talented defenders who put their bodies on the line every match.
