CROSSFIT: The CrossFit methodology has helped save lives, and now members of the CrossFit community are ready once again to help others do the same.

More than 100 athletes have signed up for CrossFit Highfields’ annual Compete for a Cause event in February with proceeds supporting LifeFlight.

This year’s event will take place over two days and includes two workouts sure to test the physical capabilities of those competing.

“It (Compete for a Cause) gets bigger every year,” CF Highfields and event organiser Bubs Jays said.

“After listening to feedback following last year’s event we decided to make it a two-day event.

“We wanted to make it more exciting and more of a test.”

The event will include two special workouts – one a 45-minute test in honour of Matthew Yeh – and the other will take place in a pool.

“When you look at the CrossFit community you see all types of people,” Jays said.

“Some are physically strong, some are fast and others are really good at gymnastics.

“We wanted to add some workouts that will require people to draw on all their strengths.

“The pool workout is a good example – I’m really looking forward to watching that one.

“The other one is a 45-minute long workout which will honour Matthew Yeh who died of brain cancer – it’s the longest and I think toughest workout we have ever programmed.

“When you write these type of workouts to honour someone it changes the dynamic.

“Typically in CrossFit you workout because you want to get a sweat happening and feel good – when you do these workouts to honour someone you try that little bit harder because it’s a matter of respecting the memory of the person.

“Matthew was a fantastic guy, and his sister Sarah will be competing this year, and I know it means a lot to her.”
