Toowoomba runner Patrick Tiernan has made a major statement just six months out from the 2024 Paris Olympic Games after a breathtaking run in the Houston Marathon on the weekend.

The dual-Olympian - who only made his marathon debut in 2022 - set the second-fastest marathon time by an Australian with an incredible time of 2:07:45.

Tiernan is now just 14 seconds off the Australian record which was set by Brett Robinson in Japan in 2022.

The 29-year-old finished the event in fourth place overall and smashed the Olympic qualifying time of 2:08:10.
