Taking the Western Clydesdales coaching reins Richard Dugdale is excited by the ‘unknown’ aspects of the 2025 BMD Premiership season.

A new-look Clydesdales side will face Burleigh Bears away from home in round 1 this Saturday minus the NRLW stars that shone in last year’s squad.

With a squad full of top tier junior Clydesdales stars and established BMD veterans the squad will be eager to replicate the successes of their 2024 competition debut.

“It’s an exciting time for the club. A time of transition and great opportunity,” Dugdale said.

“It’s an unknown season for everyone really with the NRLW players unavailable.

“What we get to see know is more of our (Western Clydesdales) top juniors stepping up alongside some of Toowoomba’s best rugby league talent and a number of other new players eager to make the most of an opportunity to play for the club.”

Seven players who lined up in the club’s Harvey Norman U19 squad earlier this year have been named in the BMD Premiership squad.

The squad also includes a number of established players from other BMD clubs.

Starting fresh this season Dugdale said his squad is focused on a few key principles and a simple game plan.

“We want to play a fast relentless game,” he said.

“We might not be the biggest side but we will play smart, hard footy and the girls are fit, very fit – there’s a big focus on winning the mini competitions and contests in every game, if we can win the bulk of those the results will sort themselves out.

“The other things important to the ladies are representing the club and the region with pride, – showing the next generation of young girls there is a pathway for them, and connection.

“There is a real bond in the squad, we’ve built those connections on and off the field which are important if you want to play good footy.”

Ahead of the 2025 season here’s a breakdown of the full squad.

Reeghyn Beardmore
