VOLLEYBALL: The Toowoomba Titans have kick started their pre-season in style.

The Titans bought home gold from the Aces United tournament - winning both the men's and women's draws.

Women's coach Chris Hillman said the club was delighted with the performance of their teams.

"It was a great weekend at a highly competitive tournament,” Hillman said.

"We took a men's and two women's down to Brisbane and they all performed well.”

The Titans primary women's side went through the tournament undefeated - edging out the hosts 5-2 in the grand final.

Hillman said it was an exciting time for the club with the player's enjoying the benefits of a new training and fitness program.

"Our attack was the difference at the weekend,” he said.

"All our players have been involved in a new training program, a very volleyball specific strength and conditioning program, and they are seeing the benefits.

"They're bigger, faster, fitter and stronger and that really showed in our attack.

"Traditionally defence has been the strong point of our club but we're seeing massive improvements in our attack.”

The Titans improvements in attack proved decisive at the weekend.

"Aces produce great defensive teams,” Hillman said.

"They grind teams out of the game by continually getting the ball back over the net.

"Typically a point may see the ball cross the net three or four times - the ball may cross the net up to ten times against Aces.

"With our attack we were able to finish things quickly.

"We were strong, dynamic and able to dictate the pace of the game.”
