SOFTBALL: Toowoomba has all the physical tools it needs to win the Queensland Cup.
They have a quality batting line up and good pitchers.
All they need is a little more belief according to coach Wade Prouten.
"Toowoomba has always been very strong in the men's and women's competitions,” Prouten said.
"I don't think we've been outside the top four in the men's over the last 20 years.
"And we'll be hopeful of producing a similar performance this year.
"If we play to our potential there's no reason why we can't.
"What we need more of is self belief.”
Specifically Prouten want's to see more "belief” from his players in the game's key moments.
"We've had pretty much the same core of players for the past ten years,” Prouten said.
"They've all got the skills but you just want to see them back themselves a little bit more in those big moments.
"When you're in the finals anything is possible - sometimes all you need is that belief.
"It's not easy though.
"Every year the competition is getting tougher and tougher.”
Led by veteran players like Adam King, Seven Hamilton and Brock Johnson the team has also added a number of younger players and some familiar faces.
"It would've been nice to have young Lincoln Walk in the side but unfortunately he's injured,” Prouten said.
"We do welcome Mark Harris though. He's a West Australian guy who has played for about eight years, he wasn't part of the team the last few years though.
"We also have Jay Selu. Jay and Mark will be our pitchers and I'm confident they'll get the job done.
"Zac Erlandson is also in the team. He's a great young Toowoomba kid. A good player and bloke.”
Toowoomba will send two men's teams to Rockhampton for the three-day competition which starts today.
One team will play in the Queensland Cup competition and the other will feature in the Open Championship.
