TENNIS: Many tennis champions have risen from humble beginnings.

But right now the Darling Downs Tennis Club committee isn't looking for a new champion - all they are hoping to do is add a little fun to the lives of disadvantaged kids.

"We're working some disadvantaged kids and integrating them with other kids in the community,” tennis coach and Darling Downs Tennis Club committee member Paul Mooney said.

"We're staging a welcome to tennis day for kids who don't normally get to experience tennis.

"It's about using tennis as the platform as the vehicle for life.

"Tennis is all about problem solving and skills.

"We want to make sure that kids who don't get the opportunity to play tennis get that opportunity.”

Using tennis as the medium, Mooney said "having fun” would be the focus of the day.

"We want them to fell comfortable on the court regardless of standard,” Mooney said.

"Most of all though we want them to have fun and hopefully make some new friends.”

John Currie is also looking forward to the event which will be held on December 8.

"We're very happy to be able to provide this opportunity to disadvantaged children from around the region,” the DDTC member said.

"We hope to expand in the future so that more members of the community can benefit from this type of event.

"Tennis and sport in general are a great way to bring people from all walks of life together.”

The DDTC is also hoping the Toowoomba community can get behind their event.

"We want to make this a special day for the kids involved,” Mooney said.

"If any businesses or members of the community would like to support us it would be greatly appreciated.”
