Toowoomba Grammar prepares for tough GPS showdown

Toowoomba Grammar School confident they can match GPS powerhouse The Southport School.

RUGBY UNION: The trip to The Southport School is considered to be one of GPS rugby's toughest.

The school's rugby program makes it a force to be reckoned with, but Toowoomba Grammar School is ready for the challenge.

"There's probably no harder trip than going to face Southport,” TGS First XV rugby coach David Enfantie said.

"They're a real powerhouse but we're looking forward to the challenge. Traditionally we do fairly well against them.”

Making the trip to the Gold Coast this Saturday, Grammar has drawn on the strength and depth of its program during its preparation

"It's been a little difficult at training this week,” Enfantie said.

"We're battling the flu and we have a few minor injuries with the boys backing up after two very big matches.

"We have prepared well though and I have full confidence in all my players.

"They know their role and they are ready - that is why we prepare a big squad.

"The culture of the school is just as important though.

"Every kid from Year Eight up comes through the system with aspirations to wear that blue and gold jersey.

"All of them are working to achieve that dream. It's one of the strengths of our program.”

Minor adversities aside, Enfantie said it had been business as usual at training.

"We haven't targeted anything specific this week,” he said.

"We've just been working hard to improve our overall game.”
