FOOTBALL: Toowoomba’s football clubs will stand side-by-side this weekend.
Old rivalries will be cast aside for a few hours as the clubs aim to grow the game through a Super Sign On day event at Walton Stores from 10am to 1pm today.
Every Toowoomba club will be represented at the event – with junior and senior players able to sign up and play.
“It’s a great opportunity for players and families to find a club that suits them the best,” Football Queensland South West’s Janelle Sothmann.
“We have a lot of fantastic clubs, coaches and officials in the Toowoomba region and all of them are keen to sign new players.
“Our referees will also have a presence at the event because they’re an important part of the game as well.”
Despite an ever increasing number of football pathways being made available to players and young and old, Sothmann said the association’s focus was about player development and fun.
“At the junior level, we want all our players to have fun and get a feel for the game,” she said.
“That is really important.
“From there as they get older, we want to build on that experience and help them develop as a player.
“For some players that might be trying to play at a higher level like the Thunder or something similar.
“Others might just want to keep playing and enjoying the game for as long as possible.
“The options are there for everyone.”
