FOOTBALL: SWQ Thunder will head into their clash with Redlands full of confidence.
The Thunder were dominant in their 4-0 defeat of the Brisbane Roar last round - playing an attractive and crisp style of football.
Nothing will change heading into their match at Gatton on Saturday May 26 which kicks-off at 5pm.
"The mood at training has been fantastic this week,” assistant team manager Kris Hemmerling said.
"Honestly the mood has been generally great all season, every player has been working hard, but they're particularly excited about this game.
"We haven't won two games in a row this season and that's definetely the goal ahead of this game.
"And we won't be changing much about our game.
"It worked really well for us against the Roar and we want to maintain that form.”
Key to their recent run of "more positive performances” has been the improvements in their defensive structure.
With five at the back the Thunder were able to effectively neutralise the Roar's wingers and Hemmerling believes Redlands will pose a similar threat.
"We've changed the way we do things a lot recently,” Hemmerling said.
"We spend a lot more time watching video of our opponents - breaking down how they play.
"Redlands set up very similar to the Roar so we will employ similar tactics to our last game. It worked really well for us so we don't want to change too much up.”
Back-to-back wins would help the Thunder climb further up the table - a result that would add further energy to the young NPL side.
"It's been a very competitive season,” Hemmerling said.
"The last win took us to mid-table and another today would help us climb even further.
"I think we're really primed to go on with it from here.
"The game against the Roar is pretty much the start of the second round but the boys are treating it like a whole new season.
"We're a very different side to the one that started the year. We've improved dramatically and we're playing a better style of football. Everyone is for the challenge.”
The Thunder women face Souths United at Gatton from 3pm.
