FOOTBALL: It's been a tough season for the South West Queensland Thunder women.

Wins have been hard to come by and the team has been put to the sword by some of the NPLW's big guns.

Today could be different - today they line up for a game Thunder coach Scott Teakle describes as very winnable.

The Thunder's only win of the 2018 season to date came against today's opponent - Sunshine Coast Wanderers.

"Unfortunately it (the Wanderers game) is the only game I've missed all season,” Teakle said.

"It's another very winnable game for us - we match up very well against them.

"I think it might be decided by the individual performances of our players.”

Despite the difficult season, Teakle said he had never questioned the dedication of his squad.

"We've had to bring things right back to basics at times,” Teakle said.

"Focus on developing some key skills in the girls that are essential to the game.

"This week for example we've been looking at transitional defence - making sure the girls are marking up properly when a cross comes in.

"I can't fault their attitude though they're all very willing to learn and want to improve.”

Teakle said he had also dedicated time to instilling a sense belief in the team's younger players.

"A lot of them know exactly what they need to do in particular situations,” he said.

"They're just a little hesitant - they don't want to make a mistake so we're trying to build their confidence.

"There is a time and place for everything. It's just a matter of having that situational awareness and executing effectively.”

Men on the road

THE task at hand doesn't get any easier for the Thunder men this week.

Coming off the back of 5-1 defeat to Lions, the Thunder face fourth-placed Moreton Bay United today.

The Thunder drew 1-1 with Moreton Bay earlier this season.

KICK OFF: The SWQ Thunder women will play host to Sunshine Coast Wanderers at Clive Berghofer Stadium from 3pm today.
