Toowoomba Junior Rugby League has produced some of Queensland and Australia’s best rugby league players.
From Steve Price and Darren Lockyer to more recent talents like such as the Va’a brothers and Lykhan King-Togia the Darling Downs and South West Queensland regions have been a hotbed of league talent.
As part of our spotlight series The Chronicle is shining a light on U15/16 and U16 divisions of the TJRL.
See who cracked the list of young stars with bright futures below.
Will Ryan
Souths U16
A fantastic footballer with size and speed . A real game changer, Will has worked hard on his fitness, and this shows in being the form front rower of the competition. His attitude and commitment to the team is second to none. A true leader.
Tom Hiscock
Souths U16
Hailing from Augathella, Tigers were lucky enough to gain the football prowess of the young second rower. Always a huge threat on the edge by running perfect lines for his halves partner and never missing any tackles. Always trains hard and never leaves anything in the tank.
Kaedyn Prentice
Souths U16
A versatile player who can line up at centre, wing and fullback. Has been one of the best in the team for a long time . A fantastic defender and a running game to match, he is a complete all-round player. With speed to burn, and seemingly always shutting down opposition plays he is among the first players selected every week.
Paddy Short
Souths U16
The Charleville product is new to the team this year whilst at boarding school. Exceptional talent with a fantastic passing game. Incredible speed of the mark, and a great kicking game and a touch of country toughness makes he is an incredible addition.
Steele Turner
Dalby Diehards U15/16
A very skilled halfback who is cool and calm in the middle.
He guides his team around the field with ease and is an exceptional leader both on and off the field through his communication and actions.
Jett Shingles
Dalby Diehards U15/16
A tough player who always gives 100 per cent.
He is a hard running lock who is never afraid to back to take a hit up or make a tackle.
A very handy footballer who can make a lot of metres up the middle in attack and not many people get past him in defence.
Louie Machin
Dalby Diehards U15/16
A versatile player who can he can line up in the front and second row, in the centres or even at lock.
Machin gives everything he has to help his team.
Charlie Moore
Dalby Diehards U15/16
Has found his place in the centres, but he can also play at five-eighth or fullback if need be. A player who has improved a lot throughout the year, he is one who always goes looking for the footy and when he gets a hold of it, he can be hard to handle.
Cooper Muller
Dalby Diehards U16
An up and coming outside back playing his first season of rugby league
A great addition to the team his is a hard ball runner and strong defender andreliable at fullback, centre or wing.
Ryan Elder
Dalby Diehards U16
A rock solid second rower.
Elder is a talented rugby union player who is able to seamlessly able to switch between codes.
He is a hard worker and always goes looking for work, happy to take the big hit ups and make first contact in defence.
Jaxon Taylor
Dalby Diehards U16
A tough, hard working utility with a great work rate.
He is a formidable opponent in the second row or outside backs, rips in to his tackles and is hard to handle when he has the footy in hand.
Extremely dedicated teammate with great attitude to training.
Bobby Hardy Thompson
Dalby Diehards U16
A tough as nails lock forward with an exceptional work rate and can always be counted on to make good metres hitting up the middle.
An exceptional defender who delivers tackle after tackle.
Dedicated and committed team player.
Zac Heinemann
Brothers U16
Heinemann has been rock-solid in defence and delivers quick, clean ball from dummy half. His sharp service and toughness in the middle are key assets.
Cedric Appo
Brothers U16
Has been a standout in the centres with strong defence, sharp footwork, and impressive speed. He’s a constant threat with ball in hand.
Leon Ega
Brothers U16
The gun second rower has outstanding defence and is a powerful ball-running, proving incredibly hard to stop close to the line. His toughness and work rate make a big impact on both sides of the ball.
Beau Martin
Brothers U16
Excels at halfback and centre with strong defence, accurate passing, and a reliable kicking game.
Thomas Murphy
Valleys U15/16
A hard running and tackling forward who gives his all in every effort on the field.
He leads by example and is super consistent.
Jerry Wylie
Valleys U15/16
The Roosters excitement machine seems to be able to turn nothing into something just about every time he touches ball.
He is a illusive, one of the fastest in the club and knows how to find the try line.
Jamie Lowe
Valleys U15/16
A coach’s dream, excellent teammate and leader.
He is an extremely versatile and tough player and hard worker.
Nate Scott
Valleys U16
Taken on a leadership role this year and is doing a fantastic job.
Leads by example as halfback and his skills and knowledge of game continue to grow every week.
His ball control and kicking game are his best assets for the team.
Hudson McDonald
Valleys U16
Has made the move from winger to five-eighth this season to great effect.
He’s a great tackler and his game management is improving every week.
Michael Hinch
Valleys U16
The star hooker has great ball control and his speed out of dummy half is second to none. Does a fantastic job at game management around the ruck helping the team keep its shape which is great to watch.
Hunter Green
Newtown U15/16
The second rower has lifted this season showing great development all around but especially in defence going from one or two tackles per game to regular efforts of around 20.
His mischievous nature and cheeky grin always makes for plenty of laughs and he is very loyal to his teammates and the club which makes him an important asset.
Wyatt McCarthy
Newtown U15/16
Another very loyal player and club man.
He isn’t very flashy but he makes up for that with his tenacity, willingness and effort, toiling away in the middle like all good lock forwards.
That is, until he has one of his self-proclaimed “fat attacks” where he produces a five minute burst of multiple hit-ups in the same set and three or four each set in defence and really puts a dent in the opposition.
Nate Wilson
Newtown U15/16
Not as big as most other props but he is as hard as nails and as tough as they come.
He gets about his business quietly with no fuss but with a burning fire inside that sees him charge into the line with no self-preservation.
He is the first player to put his hand up when the tough carries are needed out of his own end.
Nick Masters
Newtown U15/16
Started the season in the hooker role but has moved to halfback and has relished the change. His organising skills have greatly improved as well as his ball playing.
He is a big communicator in the team and has started to get the team around the park well. His love of reffing and knowledge of the rules is a great asset to the team and the club.
Even though he gets in a little trouble for it he isn’t afraid to communicate the nuances of the rules with officiators.
