McKee has held onto the number one goal kicker for majority of the season and as it draws to a close, will anyone catch him?

Sitting on 53 goals for the season, McKee passed his tally from last year of 43 but is still 45 goals away from reaching his return of 98 goals in 2021.

2. Matt Wallin – Yeppoon Swans – 31 goals

The Swans premiership skipper is 22 goals behind his teammate but it wouldn’t be too much of a concern as his side remains undefeated in 2024.

Wallin kicked six in round 7, his best return for the season, which has also seen him kick 20 of his 31 goals in the last six weeks.

3. Timothy Higgins – Glenmore Bulls – 29 goals

Third place and sitting 24 goals behind first is Tim Higgins, with the power forward averaging 2.23 goals a game for the Bulls.

Higgins has missed just the two games so far this season with his best returns coming in round 9 and round 11 with four goals each.

4. Jamie Hill – Gladstone Suns – 25 goals

Hill has dropped away during the middle matches of the season, going goalless in round 8, round 10, round 11 and round 12.

His best return came in round 7 against Rockhampton Panthers with 6 but has a long way to go if he wants to beat his overall best of 78 in 2017 in the under 17s, but is likely to beat his seniors best of 26 he kicked last season.

5. Christian Burgess - Yeppoon Swans - 22 goals

Just three goals behind fourth spot and five goals ahead of sixth, Burgess has had a very consistent middle part of the year as he looks to help the Swans remain undefeated and bring home another premiership.

His best return was seven goals in round 4 against Brothers Kangaroos but has kicked six goals in the last two weeks since his return.

AFL Cairns – Round 15

1. Tyron Rainbird – Cairns City Lions – 49 goals

Last years Matthew Walsh medallist is back out in front after kicking 16 goals in the last three weeks to take a four goal lead with five games to go.

Since going goalless in round 5, only once has he kicked less than three goals but has had his best return in round 7, kicking eight goals, seven goals in round 13, two lots of six bags and a bag of five.

2. Kye Chapple – Port Douglas Crocs – 45 goals

Chapple and Rainbird continue to go back and forth this season and the race continues to be red hot as we head into the final five rounds of the year.

Port Douglas’ leading goal kicker was sitting on top of the leaderboard two weeks ago but a bye in the middle of the last two games has seen him drop to second but has still managed to kick 14 goals in the last three rounds.

3. Andrew Coombe - Cairns Saints - 33 goals

Coombe is one of the shining stars for the Saints this season, where a side is sitting second to last, he sits third on the goal kicking leaderboard.

He has had returns of five goals twice this season, in round 1 and round 14 and since going goalless in round 8, Coombe has kicked 18 goals in the last five games.

4. Darcy Morris – Cairns City Lions – 32 goals.

Not usually known for his goal kicking but in 2024, Morris has snuck forward to kick a few bags this season.

Since moving to Cairns in 2020, Morris has kicked a combined 44 goals from 2020 to 2023, this year alone he has already kicked the most in a season for the midfielder which included a bag a nine in the round 4 thumping of Manunda Hawks.

5. Fitzroy Greenwool – North Cairns Tigers – 32 goals

The Tigers half-forward, midfield bull has taken his game to a new level in 2024 as he looks to help end the Tigers 36-year premiership drought.

Greenwool has played just 10 games of a possible 12 for his 32 goals this season, with his best return of six goals against the Saints in round 8, with a bag of five and three bags of four this season.

AFL Darling Downs – Round 16

1. Charlie Farrer – Hawks – 30 goals

The Hawks sit third on the ladder and it is partly because of Farrer kicking bags in recent weeks as they continue to chase success in 2024.

His best return came in the round 2 win over South Toowoomba Bombers where he booted seven goals, ultimately being the difference as his side won by 37 points.

2. Rohan Drummond – Tigers – 27 goals

Drummond has leapfrogged into second spot after back-to-back games where he has kicked bags of four in rounds 10 and 12 (with the bye in between)

He kicked a bag of six in the round 14 clash with South Burnett Saints, his best return this season but has added a bag of five in round 5 and three times he has kicked four goals this season, with 27 goals in just eight games played this season.

3. Daniel Brown – Hawks – 25 goals

Brown was sitting on top of the ladder four weeks ago but a few quiet weeks and not playing the las two has seen him drop to third.

He booted nine goals in the Hawks win over the Redbacks and jumped to the leading goal kicker from round 3 to round 10.

4. Ryan Hodgson – South Toowoomba Bombers – 16 goals

Not your traditional forward but with the Bombers sitting fourth at the moment, Hodgson is a standout and key to them remaining inside the top four.

Hodgson has played the last five weeks in a row, but has been kept goalless in two of those games and just four goals from the remaining three games with the Bombers throwing him on the ball.

5. Josh Liddington - South Toowoomba Bombers - 16 goals

Similar to Hodgson, Liddington has jumped back into the top five goal kickers this season on the back of five goals over the past two weeks.

Before that, Liddington was kept goalless for four games in a row before his return of his best this season with four goals in round 13.

AFL Mackay – Round 15

1. Joel Mitchell – Mackay Magpies – 58 goals.

Mitchell started the year off channelling his inner Jason Dunstall with bags of eight in round 1, nine in round 2 and 14 against Mackay City Hawks in round 3.

2. Billy Galpin - Whitsunday Sea Eagles - 27 goals

From 12 games, Galpin has be toiling away with a goal a game slowly building before kicking 18 goals in five weeks.

3. Cameron Hill – North Mackay Saints – 25 goals.

Hill has jumped from third to second since kicking six goals in two weeks to overtake Fraser Carroll four rounds back but has now slipped to third again after a couple of quiet weeks that has still been five goals in three games of footy.

A consistent year so far for Hill, three times he has been kept goalless but continually has kicked mutliple goals five times from the past six goals.

4. Benjamin Barba – Eastern Swans – 19 goals

Barba has played the last two rounds but still finds himself in the top five after a very consistent season from the Swan.

He has kicked 20 goals from seven games, Barba missed the opening three rounds and rounds 8 and 9 before returning to kick the seven in round 10, followed up by two in round 11 and one in round 12 before missing rounds 13 and 14.

5. Fraser Carroll – Whitsunday Sea Eagles – 18 goals.

Carroll sits a massive 40 goals behind Mitchell in the goal kicking leaderboard and from the back half of the year it is a race for second spot with Carroll just holding on to fifth spot.

His best return this year was six in round 2 against Mackay Magpies but he is on track to beat his seniors best of just 22 goals in a season.

AFL Townsville – Round 18

1. Reegan Mrsich – Thuringowa Bulldogs – 45 goals.

The Hawks main target up forward has had an up and down year when it comes to the big sticks, having three games where he has been kept goalless but four games with five or more goals.

His return of seven against Northern Beaches in round 11 was his best so far this season, he will be looking to knock off his career best of 35 which he did so in 2020 and season 2021.
