CRICKET: A new look DDSWQ Suns team will contest this weekend's Bulls Masters Country Challenge in Mackay.
Despite the absence of a few familiar faces, coach Kent Reimers is confident the team will be competitive in the Twenty20 competition.
"I'm pretty excited about this team,” Reimers said.
"I think it's got a real good balance. It's never been the Darling Downs way to rely on individuals.
"We've picked about some quality players - blokes like Dane Hutchinson, Cam Brimblecombe and Chris Hall.”
Alongside Brimblecombe, Reimers is also excited by the addition of Keiren Gibbs.
"Last year we didn't have a spinner, now we have two,” he said.
"Nothing stems runs like wickets but in Twenty20 cricket being able to restrict the flow of runs is just as important.
"Cam and Keiren are quality spinners and it's good that option is alongside our pace attack.
"I have no doubt our bowlers will be able to get the job done.”
At the crease Reimers hopes to see a mature performance from his batting line-up.
"In the past we've gone about things the wrong way,” he said.
"Our batsmen have gone out there and tried to blast away from the start.
"We can't afford to play like that - we need to be smarter.
"The good thing about our line-up is it's quite fluid.
"We're not relying on any single player.
"And we're able to mix our combinations up to meet the situation in front of us.”
THE TEAM: Chris Gillam, Tully Willson, Nick Brown, Jack Carter, Cam Brimblecombe, Kris Glass, Chris Hall, Luke Neale, Dan Anderson, Shaun McCarthy, Kieren Gibbs, Dane Hutchinson.
