As well as tennis and croquet, students have been learning the finer points of lawn bowls from members of the Toowoomba Bowls Club.

"We've been running sessions with from Fairholme and St Joseph's for some time now," Toowoomba Bowls Club member Christine Plater said.

"And now we're working with the younger kids from East State School.

"By the end of Wednesday every student from the school will have tried their hand here.

"For us it's about building the future of lawn bowls. Not our club, but the future of the sport."

Plater said the focus was on learning the key skills of the game in a fun environment.

"We set up a lot of small fun games for the students," Plater said.

"The focus is learning some of the key skills and aspects of lawn bowls. We wanted to make it for them as well.

"There's been some really competitive kids - they're really focused on getting it right and they want to be good at it.

"But overall there has been a lot of high-fives, smiles and laughter - they've really been enjoying themselves."
