WOODCHOPPING: Brothers Jack and Mitch Argent cut right to the chase when it comes to competition.
Jack is determined to get a win over his older brother and Mitch is happy to accept the challenge.
"At the bigger shows he (Mitch) helps me out a bit with advice,” Jack (pictured) said.
"But when we're on the show circuit the gloves are off we really try to beat each other.
"I've been close to beating him but I haven't got there yet.”
This weekend the focus will be on support though with the pair competing at the 2018 Stihl Timbersports Australian Championships on the Gold Coast.
"It can be a little nerve wracking taking it all in,” Jack said.
"The big crowds, all the noise but I'm feeling pretty good at the moment.
"I cut some ripper blocks at the Adelaide Show so I'm reasonably confident.
"Consistency is the most important thing. You have to place well across all the events if you want to win.”
Jack will contest the Rookie Division of the championships while Mitch will compete in the Men's Championships.
"My goal is to make the Australian team again,” Mitch said.
"Ultimately I'd love to win the whole thing - finishing in the top four of all the events is pretty important if you want to achieve that.
"I got some good results at Adelaide and the Ekka and I'm chopping pretty good.”
A fairly strict training regime should also have the siblings well-drilled.
"It can be a bit hard coming home from work and training,” Mitch said.
"But it's good having Jack around because we push other to work hard and we put lights up at our ring recently so we can't use the dark as an excuse.”
The championships will feature some of Australia's best choppers and will be a big entertainment show-piece.
Alongside the athletes there will be live music and food trucks, according to event director Lee Gooch. The athlete who wins Sunday's championship final will take home the top prize of $20,000.
