MOTORSPORTS: Cameron Shields has lined up on some of Australia's most celebrated racetracks.
He has tested himself against some of the best drivers in the nation in numerous race classes.
But one of biggest challenges could come this weekend at Morgan Park Raceway - it's a challenge the Toowoomba teen is looking forward too.
Despite being little more than a hour from his hometown, Shields has little experience on the Warwick track.
"I haven't had the opportunity to race there very often,” Shields said.
"It's a good track though and I'm looking forward to the challenge - I'm confident we will do well.”
Shields heads into round three of the Formula 3 Championship on the back of a good Formula 4 performance at Philip Island last weekend.
Shields was on the pace all weekend before a mechanical failure cruelled his chances in the final race.
"It was a pretty good weekend for myself and the team,” he said.
"We running second for most of the weekend until the final race.
"Unfortunately while I was warming the tyres in the warm up lap the diff broke which I couldn't race.
"Finishing that race could've helped me extend my lead in the championship but unfortunately it's now down to just the one point.”
Philip Island is firmly in Shields' rear vision mirrors now though with his focus on steering his Gilmour Racing F3 to a competitive qualifying position.
"Morgan Park has just been resurfaced so the racing will be fast and smooth,” he said.
"Qualifying is going to be very important - the higher the better.
"The straights aren't very big and there are 12 turns - there won't be many passing opportunities so will want to be up front.”
Shields currently leads the Australian Formula 3 Championship.
Practice starts today before racing from 8.30am tomorrow and Sunday.
Eight classes of racing will be in action over the three days including Legend cars, Mazda RX8 Cup Series, Aussie Ute Series, Formula 3, Queensland Formula Vee, Queensland Production Sports Cars, Queensland Classic Sports Cars and GT-1 Australia.
