CRICKET: The pace bowling attacks in this weekend's inaugural DDSWQ Open Cricket Challenge are some of the best Kent Reimers has ever seen in Toowoomba.

However, runs on the board will still be the deciding factor for Reimers who will coach the City side against their Country counterparts today and tomorrow.

"You can't be content with a score of around 200 any more,” Reimers said.

"When you look at matches being played at the moment, even in the last few weeks, they're posting big scores.

"We need to do that if we want to win. We've got quite a few all-rounders in the side but we also have a good core of bats.”

City will also look to put pressure on their opposition with the ball in hand.

"It's one of the best pace attacks I have seen in Toowoomba for a long time,” Reimers said.

"Dane Hutchinson is a former New Zealand first-grade cricketer and then we have blokes like Shaun McCarthy and Kane Bradford.

"We can't afford to take Country lightly though, they're a very handy side.”

The teams will play a 50-over match today at Gatton's Cahill Park and a Twenty20 match tomorrow at the same venue.

Selectors will then name a side to compete at the Bulls Masters T20 Country Challenge in October.

Reimers said the T20 matches would be vital for the DDSWQ side as they prepare for the Schaefer Shield later this season.

"We haven't done as well as we would've liked in that format so it's something we need work on,” he said.
