FUTSAL: Toowoomba will play a key role in Queensland's quest for a national futsal title.
Coached by Garden City resident Craig Lockwood, the under-17 girls also features three local players - Maddy Lockwood, Chloe Hutton and Izzy Harris.
The quartet is part of the state team competing in Sydney at the FFA National Futsal Championships from today until January 13.
Coach Lockwood said skill played a key role in the trio's selection but it was another "skill-set” that had secured their places in the squad.
"They've all got a willingness and desire to work hard,” he said.
"Obviously they're very skilled technically which plays a big part, but their effort in attack and defence is important as well.”
All three players have plenty of experience at the state level with a combined eight state caps between them - a factor Lockwood believes will work in Queensland's favour.
"I think we have very good squad overall,” Lockwood said.
"But it is nice to have that combination you can rely on at key points in the game.
"Maddy, Chloe and Izzy have played a lot of their futsal together - they know each other's games and work well together.
"As coach it's good knowing you have a combination you can rely on like that.
"It makes things a little easier when you know you have players you can rely on at important times in the game.
"You can be confident that if you put them out there they know what you expect and they can do the job.”
