CRICKET: Two Toowoomba cricketers are determined to make their mark on the state stage.
Sam Anderson and Jem Ryan will add their names to a long representative list when they line up for Queensland at the 2019 National Cricket Championships.
The pair earned selection after impressive performances for the Darling Downs under-15 boys team at the Queensland Cricket Carnival in Mackay.
Anderson captained the team to mixed results under trying circumstances with rain affecting several games.
"We were probably a little bit inconsistent but we played some pretty good games," Anderson said.
"As captain I just tried to keep things positive - especially during the (rain) delays.
"If the captain drops his head it's not good for the team."
Producing a top score of 60, Anderson was happy with his personal performance.
"I had a few good innings," he said.
"I was pretty happy with how I batted."
Ryan was also happy with his performance - the young all-rounder relatively satisfied with his contribution.
"We finished fourth but I think we played our best cricket," he said. "I scored some runs and took a few wickets.
"You never expect to make the team though, so it's good to be selected.
The Darling Downs team featured seven Toowoomba Grammar School students: Paul Draheim, Harry Mieklejohn, Tom Sippel, Callum Galvin, Harrison Tzannes, Jem Ryan and Sam Anderson.
