As an Oakey Bears junior, Shenae Ciesiolka never expected to be in the position she is now.
At 12 years of age she had to play rugby league in boys’ team, and girls wanting to play at the elite level had to find opportunities in other sports.
Now Ciesiolka, 26, is living the dream as a Brisbane Broncos, Australian Jillaroos and soon to be Western Clydesdales star.
“It’s really exciting,” Ciesiolka said.
“Back then playing for Oakey Bears there wasn’t a lot opportunities for us as girls, you really had to go play other sports.
“I never thought there would be the opportunity to play for the Broncos or the female football pathways we have now.
“It’s really exciting to see the Western Clydesdales in the BMD Premiership, and it’s great for girls in this region.”
The fleet-footed, hard-running winger is one of four huge signings the Clydesdales announced last week ahead of the club’s BMD Premiership debut next year.
Ciesiolka, who won the 2020 NRLW Premiership with the Brisbane Broncos, is looking forward to playing alongside her fellow NRLW talents.
“Tara (Reinke) had a massive first year for the Raiders in the NRLW, and Jessikah (Reeves) just came back from playing for PNG,” she said.
“Ali (Brigginshaw) is a fantastic player as well, and I’ve really enjoyed playing alongside her in the past.
“It’s a really exciting time for everyone, and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do.”
