NETBALL: Michelle Lynch is not afraid of hard work - in fact she enjoys it.
And now that hard work is paying off.
Lynch will head to South Africa in October to represent Australia at the Aged Indoor Netball World Series.
"It (representing Australia) has always been a goal of mine. I'm very excited to be part of this team,” Lynch said.
"You make a lot of sacrifices and it takes a lot of hard work to play at this level - so it's nice to see that work pay off.
"I was named in the Australian team last year but it was more of an honorary list - not a touring team.
"This time round we're touring and I'm really looking forward to it.”
The defender will feature in Australia's Over-30s mixed team against some of the world's best netball nations, including England, New Zealand and South Africa.
"We (Australia) are always a competitive side,” Lynch said.
"Ultimately I'd love us to win it but if we can grab a few good wins and I'd be happy.
"Personally if I can play and know that I've given my best I'll be satisfied.”
The prospect of matching up against male players will be of little concern to Lynch either.
"Normally when you're playing mixed, the men on the teams will naturally match up against each other,” she said.
"But associationally you do find yourself marking a guy - it's just part of the game though. They might be a little more athletic or faster but you learn to play smarter.”
Lynch attributes her on-court success to her love for the sport and competitive nature.
"Every time you play it's an opportunity to learn something new and improve yourself which I love,” she said.
"I love testing myself against better players - it makes you work harder.
"And right now I'm feeling the fittest I ever have.
"My work with The Fit Lab has helped me improve my game.
"I have a sport specific program and I'm seeing the benefits.”
