Love blossoms as Lucy chases feature win

Toowoomba mare looking to take her impressive form to town.

RACING : Barry Squair thinks he's found that "nice" horse hobby trainers long to have come their way.

Today he hopes his opinion is on the money when Toowoomba mare Love You Lucy looks to gift her supporters an early Christmas present with an Eagle Farm feature win.

Love You Lucy is one of six Darling Downs gallopers lining up for their shot at the Summer Provincial Series Final over 1300 metres.

Love You Lucy has burst into prominence for the $125,000 event with four wins from her latest five starts.

She goes into today's race on the back of successive Clifford Park wins, including an 1100-metre Benchmark 68 final qualifier on December 7.

Squair has ridden and prepared his share of talented horses with G'day Old Mate, King's Clan and King's Coup some of the quality gallopers to go through his stable.

Now he's hoping Love You Lucy can end her year on a high and continue on a winning path towards 2020 in this afternoon's testing mission.

Squair prepares the Love Conquers All four-year-old for her breeder Leo Goggins and her large group of co-owners.

"She is out of the same mare (Whitechappel) who is the dam of C'mome Paddyreilly who Leo and the owners raced with me," Squair said.

"They've had a bit of fun with him along the way, but this mare is a different proposition.

"She ran home well to finish second at Dalby at her first race start and I thought we might have something here.

"She won her next start in a Kilcoy QTIS race and then ran a few other QTIS placings before we put her away.

"I ride her in all her work and she's one of the biggest 'shyers' I've come across but she can gallop.

"When she came back in she won at the coast and then annihilated them at Ipswich.

That was probably her biggest win so far, the way she did it that day.

"She then finished right with them at Doomben and has looked good in her two Toowoomba wins

"Ronnie Goltz has been on her for her last three wins and he deserves the ride on her again today.

"She's come along well and is improving all the time and I reckon the others will know they are in a race against her on Saturday."
