MMA: Toowoomba’s up-and-coming MMA fighter Tom “Big Train” Nolan scored the win of his burgeoning career with a points decision over the experienced Trevor Sinclair at the weekend.

The lightweight bout went the distance of three five-minute rounds in what turned out to be a brutal clash at Carrara Stadium on the Gold Coast.

The fight, on the undercard of Eternal MMA 63, was livestreamed around the world, giving the 21-year-old Toowoomba fighter his widest audience yet.

Sinclair had previously won a lightweight title which followed an undefeated amateur career.

He fights out of the Integrated Martial Arts Gym, which is “Australia’s most successful gym”..

“It was a tough fight and I’ve got a couple of little injuries but I’ll recover,” Nolan said.

The win was Nolan’s second as a professional following an amateur career which stood at eight wins and one loss including two time XFC champion, fighting out of Toowoomba under trainers Elijah Kennedy and Zac Talbot.

Not a bad record considering Nolan only took to the gym as a way to keep fit in the off-season when he was a promising teenage rugby league player with the Junior Toowoomba Clydesdales.

However, he soon took to Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) with a passion.

And, at just 21, Nolan has it all before him and his aim is to get to the big time.

“I hope one day to get to UFC, that’s my goal,” he said.

“I love it (MMA) and I love training three or four hours every day.

“At the moment we’re waiting to see how I recover before hopefully booking a fight for early next year.”

In between bouts, Nolan works for his older brother Luke Nolan’s plumbing business, Perfect Pressure Plumbing & Gas Toowoomba.
