THREE THINGS WE LEARNED FROM DAY 3
TASSIE’S SHINING LIGHT
Johnty Dynan has been on fire for Tasmania’s boys side despite two close losses to begin their campaign.
The Tassie captain proved to be a nightmare in the paint for the South Australia Metro defence on Monday as he racked up points and boards with ease to finish with a 24-point, 15-rebound double-double. He also pulled off an empathic block, swatting the ball out of sight.
Dynan is averaging 24.5 points, 14 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game so far as he continues to turn heads.
CURTIS DRAINS THE MATCH-WINNER
Taylah Curtis came up clutch in the dying second of New South Wales Country’s girls match against Tasmania to lift them to a 73-77 victory.
She finished the match with 10 points, and stepped up when the game was on the line. After inbounding the ball, Curtis hustled a rebound and then got the ball back in the corner where she drained the winning shot.
It was a dagger in the heart of Tasmania who had come back from six points down with less than two minutes on the clock to level the scores after Brydee McPherson sunk a long-range three.
The NSW Country girls are now 1-1 after a narrow three-point loss to South Australia Metro on Sunday, while the boys are undefeated.
TEAMS TO BEAT
The Queensland South and Vic Country boys side both delivered statement performances with convincing wins over the ACT on Monday.
The wins saw both sides progress to 3-0 records.
Vic Country shared the minutes around in its 49-point win, with five players scoring double figures. Jackson Hood led the way with a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double.
In the final match of the day, Queensland South put the foot down to storm to a dominant 105-59 victory.
Vic Metro, South Australia Metro, and New South Wales Country boys sides are all also unbeaten with two wins so far.

PREVIEW
Queensland’s two girls sides will be among the main attractions when day three of the Basketball Australia Under-16 National Championships in Bendigo gets underway on Monday.
KommunityTV will exclusively live stream 12 matches across three courts from 10am AEST.
A dominant victory on Sunday – led by a massive 38-point, 15-rebound performance from captain Maddison Reisinger – will ensure plenty of eyes will be on the Queensland South girls when they face WA Country at 12pm on Court 6.
The Maroons used a big last quarter to defeat Tasmania 86-66 on the back of big games from Reisinger and Jay Sebasio, sending a signal they will be a side to watch this week.
Not to be outdone the Queensland North girls thrashed SA Country by 30 points in their tournament opener.
A tougher test will await when they face NSW Metro at 4pm on Court 6 today.
On the boys side, Tasmania was one of the surprise packets on Sunday when they pushed Victoria Metro all the way and will face SA Metro first up at 10am.
Johnty Dynan looks to be Tassie’s talisman after 29 points and 13 boards and he’ll need to have another big game if they are to get past an SA side featuring the likes of Jonathan McConnell, Lucas Breeding and Henry Riddle.
Every match of the Basketball Australia Under-16 and National Championships will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV from Juy 5-13.
It is the third of five national junior pathways events on the Basketball Australia calendar, following the under-20 and under-18 nationals earlier this year.
