WHAT WE LEARNED …
STEVAN CONTINUES TO STAR FOR VIC METRO
While they may have faced a stiff challenge throughout Wednesday’s blockbuster undefeated clash against New South Wales Country, Victoria Metro, powered once again by Stevan Tasic, proved why they remain the team to beat this July.
For the third straight game, Tasic finished with a points-rebounds double-double to further entrench his name in the conversation for boy’s player of the tournament.
Heading in off 21 points and 12 rebounds against Western Australia Country, and 21 points and 16 rebounds against Queensland North, Tasic was less impactful from a stats perspective but still impressive with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
But it wasn’t all smooth sailing for the young gun who faced his own challenges throughout the contest.
Tasic did the majority of his damage throughout the first-half, scoring 11 points before the long-break, before hitting a third-quarter slump that included going 0/3 as NSW started to regain some scoreboard momentum.
That slight slump continued to start the fourth quarter but Tasic responded from a bad turnover and two missed lay-ups in the opening minute, to score three important points in the final few minutes that snuffed out the late challenge Country had started to present.
Victoria Metro eventually won the clash 67-58.
DOUBLE DELIGHT FOR TASMANIA
After a tough few days to start the tournament, Tasmania finally got on the board on Wednesday.
The boys and girls teams broke through for their first respective wins of the campaign on Wednesday afternoon.
Captain Johnty Dynan led the boys to a 58-52 win over Queensland with a brilliant all-round performance.
His stat line included 15 points, 12 rebounds and three assists in the win as he continued an impressive tournament.
Riley Powell was equally as impressive on the offensive end with 13 points as Prince Williams provided a spark off the bench with nine points on 3-6 shooting and four assists in just over 10 minutes of court time.
Chloe Neate flirted with a triple-double in the girls 68-64 win over South Australia Metro as Tassie held off a second half comeback from the Croweaters after once leading by as much as 17.
Neate finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and five steals in a massive performance to inspire her side to victory.
Tassie finished with a whopping 22 steals for the game with Bryde McPherson also registering five alongside her 15 points.
The girls return to action on Thursday morning at 10am against Western Australia Country.
A clash against NSW Country will see the boys close out their pool stage on Thursday from 4pm.

DYNAMIC DUO IN FULL FLIGHT
The dynamic pairing of skipper Maddison Reisinger and Jay Sebasio has ensured Queensland South have maintained their unbeaten run in the under-16 girls.
As much as previously unbeaten opponents Vic Country were dogged in their pursuit, they simply had no answer to the pair at both ends of the court.
Reisinger landed 13 points, but it was her defensive deeds with 13 rebounds which shut down Vic Country.
Her presence under the net completely disarmed her rivals, forcing them into a long-range game.
While Reisinger applied the brakes, Jay Sebasio hit the accelerator at the net, racing to a game-high 26 points and 10 rebounds of her own.
A three-pointer right on halftime kept Vic Country in the contest as they trailed by five points (30-35), but their belief was short-lived.
The Queenslanders dominated the third 20-4 including 18 consecutive points to effectively end the contest.
The final quarter was a scrappy affair with the heat out of the contest, Queensland South cruising to the line 68-43.
Isabella Ioane and Esther Taleni both had their moments for the winners, while Mila Childs, Emily Iredell and Jada Hill tried hard for the vanquished.
Queensland South knocked off New South Wales Country 91-53 victory in their previous match and this latest victory will certainly boost their confidence.
