Jason Gregory’s consistent pair chase Clifford Park victories

RACING: Jason Gregory knows how to train a consistent type, and he’ll saddle up two that don’t know how to run a bad race at Clifford Park.

Fish On is one of those chasing success in the V.J. Butler Memorial Summer Provincial Series Heat (1300m) tomorrow night.

With a win and a second-placing from four starts this preparation, Gregory hopes the six-year-old is primed to break through once again.

“He likes to get back early in his races and he’ll be running on strong,” Gregory said.

“He’s a good chance. The 1300m isn’t a problem, he’s won at 1400m before.

“Skye (Bogenhuber) has won three races on him and has been riding him for quite a while.”

The Irons has developed one of the most consistent records on the Downs, with four wins and 21 placings from 39 starts.

This time in he hasn’t missed the placings from five starts, including a win here three runs back, and Gregory said he is a leading hope once again.

“He’s never far from the mark and I expect him to run another honest race,” he said.

“The barrier draw is nice, we’ll just see where he wants to sit in the run. Sometimes he can take control and charge forward which has cost him a couple of races.

“Hopefully he can settle. I think we’ve got his racing pattern calmed down. If asked to go forward he would, but it’s not ideal every race.

“Emma (MacPherson) has ridden him six times for five seconds, so she’s getting to know him really well.”

Eight races will take place at Clifford Park, with the first to jump at 5.11pm and the last getting underway at 9.25pm.

BUNYA PARK BACK IN ACTION

Dalby will host a seven-race program today to commence a big weekend of racing on the Downs.

Apprentice Zac Lloyd will have his first race rides at the meeting, including hopping aboard Satine for Toby and Trent Edmonds in the opening race of the day.
