The Toowoomba Mountaineers QSL Men’s Youth League side were a class above as they claimed a comfortable 84-72 win over the Sunshine Coast Phoenix.

After another impressive performance from the young guns, we reveal how the Mountaineers got over the line.

Lethal three-point shooting

The Mountaineers have a wide array of shooting talent on the floor with several players in both their starting and bench units confident from beyond the arc.

After scoring nine three-pointers in their season opener against USC Ripcity, the Phoenix needed to be at their best to limit the star power within the Mountaineers line-up.

Despite the home side’s best efforts, the Mountaineers shot the lights out from deep again as they scored 10 threes against the Phoenix.

Game-changing run

After trailing by three points late in the second quarter, Toowoomba and the Sunshine Coast were engaged in an exciting back and forth contest.

However, that soon rapidly changed as the Mountaineers’ rising stars showed why they are set to be a contending team as they went on a 22-10 run to take a 51-39 lead midway through the third.

In the blink of an eye, Toowoomba put the Sunshine Coast to the sword as they lit it up from deep to steer themselves towards victory.

From there, it was all smooth sailing as the Mountaineers cruised to victory off the back of the lethal run.

Hess a force to be reckoned with

Off the back of a solid TBL season, Theo Hess has continued to prove he is one to watch for years to come in a Mountaineers jersey.

Hess hit the ground running in round 1 with 23 points and then backed it up on the weekend with 10 points.

He has proven that when he gets the hot-hand, there are few players that can stop him and his impressive arsenal as he is capable of hitting shots from downtown or driving to the rim.
